１２さい。 もうすぐクリスマスだとおもうと、 うれしくて うれしくて たまりません。 こんどの クリスマスには どうしても かなえてもらいたいことが あるからです。 |
"Oh what a busy, busy time of year. Christmas is coming, and I have so many things to do,'' said Sachiko to Junko,Takeo and Tooru, who had come to play. "I have gifts to make and cookies to bake, but that's not all. We'll get a tall tree, hang stockings three, four, or maybe more.'' |

サンタさんに あうことです。 サンタさんは せかいじゅうの こどもたちに おくる プレゼントを つくるので、 おおいそがし！ 「でも、わたしの おねがいも きいてほしいな！」 さっちゃんは おもっていました。 |
Later, Sachiko
and Junko,Takeo and Tooru were talking about Santa Claus. They could picture Santa's jolly, round face with his big smile that was nearly hidden by his long, white, bushy beard. |

"I have a great idea," said Sachiko. "Let's get our crayons and pencils and each make a list and call it "My Christmas Wish" This list will be special. We'll pretend we can go to the North Pole and see how Santa and Mrs. Claus get ready for Christmas." |

All of the elves work
so hard in Santa's toy shop, that Mrs. Claus bakes them lots of cookies for snacks. Some have red icing, some chocolate, and some green. "Ummm, I really like cookies,'' said Sachiko, "I wish I could be there to share some with the elves." |

thought of another wish. "I wish Santa could bring Rudolph to Gifu City. It would make the whole town happy." |

「やあ、こんにちは。 きみのくるのを こびとさんたちも おまちかねだよ。 さっちゃんも そりを うんてんしてみるかい？」 「もちろん やってみたいな」 さっちゃんは うれしそうに こたえて、そりに のりこみました。 |
"I just thought of
a bigger wish," said Sachiko. "I wish Santa Claus would come with ALL his reindeer and take me for a ride. Up, up, and away we would fly. I would wear a green suit to match the color of Santa's green sleigh. As I fly by, I might even shake a bell or two myself." |

「いってきまーす！」
と てをふる さっちゃん じゅんちゃん、たけおくん、 とおるくんたちの すがたも みえます。 さっちゃんの ねがいごとが ほんとうに なったので まちじゅうのひとが よろこんでくれています。 みんなの みまもるなか、 サンタさん、トナカイ、さっちゃんは ほっきょくめざして とびたちました。 |
"Well, I have a bigger,bigger, BIGGER wish," cried Junko,Takeo and Tooru. "I can't write it down, it is so BIG. I wish all the children in Gifu City, could take turns flying around with Santa Claus. I can just see the BIG smiles" |

つめたいかぜが ほほに ふきつけます。 でも そりにのった さっちゃんは ほんわかした いいきぶん。 トナカイが くものうえを とぶように かけると リンリンリン すずのねが たからかに ひびきわたります。 そりは あっというまに サンタさんの おうちに とうちゃくしました。 |

and Junko,Takeo and Tooru were enjoying this pretend game very much. They started wishing they could go to see where Santa and Mrs. Claus lived. They had been told that the walk way to the front door was lined with candy canes ! |

「さっちゃん ほっきょくへ ようこそ！」 サンタさんが おおきなこえで いいました。 「ことしも せかいじゅうに たくさんのいいこが いるから いそいで おもちゃを よういしなくちゃ」 |
All of a sudden, they found themselves sitting at Santa's table. Santa was reading through his very long list of names of children who had been very good. Sachiko and Junko,Takeo and Tooru hoped their names were on the list. |

「こびとさんたちが
おもちゃの しあげをしているのよ。 さっちゃんも おてつだい してもらえるかしら」 と サンタさんのおくさん。 「はい！ よろこんで おてつだいします。」 さっちゃんが こたえると 「じゃ、すぐ たのむよ」 サンタさんが しごとばに つれていって くれました。 |
"Welcome to our home Sachiko. would you and your friend like some cookies, "asked Mrs. Claus. "Santa and I will sing you some Christmas songs. How about Silent Night, or Jingle Bells ? Yes, Jingle Bells," and they began to sing. |

サンタさんが しごとばの ドアをあけると･･････、 まあ、なんて おもしろそうな ところなんでしょう！ こびとさんたちが うたをうたいながら、 かなづちで トントンうったり、 のりをつけたり、 ペンキを ぬったりして おもちゃを つくっています。 「こんにちは、さっちゃん。 ぼくらの しごとばへ ようこそ」 こびとさんは うたいながら いいました。 もくばのしっぽを つけるのが さっちゃんのしごとです。 |
The music could be heard in the workshop where the elves were working very hard. One elf was painting some finishing touches on the roof of a doll house. ''I wonder if one of the elves made that little doll,'' said Sachiko, ''I would like to have that as a gift for myself.'' |

つぎに プレゼントを わけるのを てつだいました。 おにんぎょう、ボール、じてんしゃ、 さんりんしゃに、ぬいぐるみ･･････ いろいろなものが あります。 「あれ、これは……」 ’さっちゃん’ という なまえいりの ほんを みつけて さっちゃんも にっこり。 |

saw an elf pick up a colorful book telling about the real meaning of Christmas. She thought it seemed like a good idea to add the book to her Wish list. |

それから なんじかんか、みんなの おてつだいを しました。 「おてつだいって たのしいな」 と さっちゃんは おもいました。 できあがった クリスマスのプレゼントは ひとりずつ かみに つつまれていきます。 さっちゃんも こびとさんたちも つかれて ヘトヘト。 でも、せかいじゅうの こどもたちが プレゼントを まっています！ |
"This has been a very exciting adventure to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus and to see how hard all the elves work to get ready for Christmas," said Sachiko. |

なにか すてきなプレゼントを とっておくと いいよ」 サンタさんは さっちゃんに いいました。 「ほ、ほう。もうクリスマスイブだよ。 さっちゃん、 プレゼントを くばるのを てつだってくれるかい？」 「はい、もちろん！」 |
As Sachiko
and Junko,Takeo and Tooru watched Santa load his sleigh, they realized that it was time to say good-bye. "Before we go," said Sachiko, "we have just one last wish.... |
